Rarely are we approached with a brief asking if we can blow up a whale, but for the Boys we knew we could make that happen. Under ILM VFX Supervision of Steven Moncur, we looked at many whale explosion videos, which surprisingly exists, and referenced many butchery based imagery. Through that combination we were able to digitally create a whale that seamlessly integrated with their practical beached whale.
